Background & Qualifications
Lisa Mirabile has been Taming Technology professionally since 2003, but she has been closely involved with personal computers since they first appeared. Lisa offers a solid base of knowledge that gives her the ability to solve most garden-variety personal technology problems quickly and efficiently, coupled with a strong set of information-finding skills she can apply to problems requiring further inquiry. Lisa earned a Masters of Library Science from Simmons in 1998, where her computer-related course work provided a slightly more useful set of skills than she acquired earning her undergraduate degree in Classics and English from Harvard University. She runs Tech Tamer from her home, where she has a husband and two children whom she also attempts to tame.
Giles Birch, the above-mentioned husband, joined Lisa as a Tech Tamer in 2007, and still objects to being tamed. Giles started his professional life as a programmer for development projects in Kenya. After a brief detour into investment management, and a rather more extended tour of service in the law, he has finally returned to his roots. In addition to general personal-computer skills, Giles has experience with enterprise-level software, and helped to design the knowledge management system for his AmLaw 100 law firm in between setting up real estate funds. Giles has a law degree from the University of Chicago and, like his wife, also went to that school in Cambridge.
